Get a switchboard upgrade quote in Sydney
Pricing a switchboard upgrade anywhere in Sydney comes down to three details: your suburb, the type of property and what the board is doing right now. A few plain sentences are enough. Use the form on this page to request a quote, and a licensed and insured local contractor can follow up.
Location
Sydney, New South Wales
The three details that shape a switchboard quote
Your suburb
Location matters because older pockets of Sydney often still have ceramic fuses and cramped meter boxes, while newer estates usually have circuit breakers already. Your suburb name gives a useful first picture of the job.
Your property type
Tell us whether it is a freestanding house, a townhouse, a granny flat or a unit. In a strata building the board may sit in a shared meter room, which changes access and can mean the owners corporation needs to know.
What is going on with the board
Say what prompted the job. Common reasons include:
- an old fuse box with rewireable fuses
- safety switches that trip often, or no safety switch at all
- a planned solar system, battery or EV charger
- moving from single phase to three phase power
- a meter box that is damaged, cracked or too small
- adding surge protection for sensitive appliances
If you are not sure what you have, that is fine. A plain note such as "old board with white fuses in the garage" already says a lot about the job.
Helpful extras if you have them
None of these are required, but they can make a first quote more accurate:
- roughly how old the home is
- where the board sits (outside wall, garage, hallway cupboard or meter room)
- any new appliances or upgrades you are planning
- whether a recent inspection or sale report flagged the board
Before you choose who does the work
Any wiring on a switchboard in NSW has to be done by someone holding a NSW electrical licence or certificate, however small the job. When the work is finished, it should be tested and you should receive a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work (CCEW) for your records.
For bigger jobs, check the paperwork too. Residential work over $5,000 including GST needs a written contract. Above $20,000 including GST, you should receive a home building compensation insurance certificate before you pay a deposit or let work start.
A quick check before you fill in the form
Open the board cover and look, without touching anything inside. Note whether you see fuses or switches, and whether any switch is labelled as a safety switch or RCD. That one observation, plus your suburb and property type, is usually enough to start.
